ABOUT

JOHN SWEZY, FOUNDER & CONSULTANT

A Picture of John Swezy

John’s engineering career began as a Nuclear Trained Machinists’s Mate in the US Navy “Silent Service” in Submarines. He achieved qualifications as an Engineering Watch Supervisor, Radiological Controls Monitor, and an Instructor; and serving as a Nuclear Planner and Mechanical Supervisor of a Nuclear Support Facility. Upon receiving an Honorable Discharge after 15 ½ years of active duty, and being classified as a Disabled Veteran, John entered civilian employment in 1990 as a National Board Commissioned Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspector in 1990 with Lumberman’s Mutual Insurance (Kemper), where he served as an Authorized Inspector and Authorized Inspector Supervisor for six years, and a Staff Technical Consultant for 2 years. He joined the Codes and Standards Technical Staff of HSB Global Standards as a Senior Code Consultant in July 1998. He has provided Codes and Standards technical support to Authorized Inspectors, Authorized Inspector Supervisors, and ASME Code Manufacturers around the world for over 10 years, primarily focused on Non-Nuclear ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel and Piping Codes and the National Board Inspection Code. In June 2008, John joined the staff of UT Battelle at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, TN as a Pressure Systems Engineer at the Spallation Neutron Source project. He currently holds the position of Mechanical Engineer in the Surveillance Office of the Fabrication Hoisting and Rigging Divison, with responsibility for Pressure Equipment Safety.

In 2001, John recognized a need for economical and professional engineering design and consulting services not offered by typical Authorized Inspection Agencies, and founded a consulting business which was then called CodeDesign. Providing responsive and professional engineering consulting services under the current name of BoilerCodeTech, John and his associates serve pressure equipment manufacturers fabricating ASME Code compliant pressure objects. Our services include design calculations and drawings, fabrication assistance, welding procedure and performance qualification consulting, NDE procedure development consulting, and quality control program development and consulting for ASME and PED pressure equipment. Future plans include training seminars and presentations at client sites.

John has an Associate of Science from the University of the State of New York, with extensive knowledge and expertise gained from formal training and self-study in the areas of welding, NDE, and pressure equipment design. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. John has been a prolific ASME Codes and Standards Committee volunteer since 1996.
